For the dreamiest of island getaways, there’s no better place than the South Pacific. The islands are truly magical, with overwater bungalows that sit over turquoise water, all set against lush tropical mountains. Even though there are hundreds of islands in the South Pacific, no two islands are ever the same—from the people to the culture to the landscape, each island has its own unique features. So, are you ready for a little island hopping? Here are the five dreamiest islands to visit in the South Pacific…

    Explore Cruises

    Moorea

Moorea is known as the ‘Magical Island’ of the South Pacific, and it truly is one of the most enchanting places on earth. There are eight stunning mountain peaks jutting out on the island, which provides a dramatic contrast to its vividly blue lagoons and bays. There are quaint villages along the waterfront, lively locals, and a welcoming atmosphere that will make you feel at home the minute you step on the island.

    Tahiti

As the largest island in French Polynesia, Tahiti is known as the ‘Queen of the Pacific.’ Its largest city, Papeete, is the capital of French Polynesia and is full of museums, restaurants, and great shopping. Beyond the bustling city lies an incredible lush landscape with large waterfalls, green rainforest, and picturesque beaches. Surfers will love visiting famed Teahupo'o, which is home to some of the most intense waves in the world!

    Bora Bora

Bora Bora is probably the most famous of the South Pacific islands, and for good reason. The island lives up to its romantic, dreamy, stunningly beautiful reputation in every way. It’s just that beautiful! From the moment you see iconic Mount Otemanu, you’re going to fall in love with the island. Enjoy snorkeling or cruising your way around, or opt for a helicopter tour to really take it all in! No matter how you choose to see the island, you’re going to have the experience of a lifetime.

    Taha’a Island

The island of Taha’a is the island of vanilla. Nearly 80% of the vanilla produced in French Polynesia (which it is known for) is grown on Taha’a! The spice is a part of the culture on the island and is used in everything from food to aromatherapy. Since Tahitian vanilla orchids are all over the island, you’ll smell the sweet fragrance wherever you go! Taha’a is also a secluded haven that can only be accessed by boat, so you’ll feel like you have paradise all to yourself.

    Huahine

Although there are of course many stunning beaches on Huahine, this island is mostly known for its beautiful tropical jungle. There are coconut plantations, vanilla orchids, banana groves, and more spread across the jungles on the island. The vibrant green color of the island is something you have to see to believe. There are also many sacred temples from ancient Tahitian royalty hidden throughout the jungle!

You can’t go wrong with a trip to any of these islands. From exploring the charming local towns, to snorkeling amongst colorful coral reefs, to sampling fresh Tahitian vanilla, the allure of the South Pacific will have you keep coming back to the islands for years to come. The best part? There’s always a different island to explore!
