When autumn rolls around, the crisp air, fall colors, and dwindling summer crowds make it the ideal time for a getaway. There are so many great incentives for traveling in the fall that it’s silly not to plan a vacation. Europe is already an enchanting destination, and it becomes even more so in the fall. Here are the best European cities to travel to this fall…

    1. Munich, Germany

Munich is home to the famous Oktoberfest, which is the world’s largest beer festival. Although you can go to Oktoberfest anywhere around the world, nowhere does it quite like Munich. Partaking in this annual tradition is a great way to learn about the local culture, and perhaps make some new friends along the way! The 2017 festival runs until October 3rd.

    2. Bruges, Belgium

This Belgian town is already one of the most charming places in Europe, so when you add changing leaves and chilly air, it becomes downright magical. The autumn colors are reflected in the many canals in the city, making for a picture-perfect scene. Crowds clear out during the off-season, leaving the cobblestoned streets to be strolled and lots of restaurants and coffee shops to warm up and get cozy in. Be sure to visit the famous open-air markets that begin in November!

    3. Florence, Italy

Fall means white truffle season in Italy. From October to December, the widely sought-after (and extremely expensive) white truffle season begins in the Tuscan region of Italy. There are festivals all across the Tuscany region, in Florence as well as the smaller towns of Alba and San Miniato. The delicious scent of truffle wafts through the streets and spills out of every restaurant in the city. Be sure and try a dish with truffle to experience the flavor for yourself!

    4. Dubrovnik, Croatia

Dubrovnik might be known as a summer vacation town, but think again. In the fall, there are less tourists in the small city center, so you can feel comfortable walking around the city without thousands of other people. The cooler temperatures also make it ideal for exploring, so you won’t overheat while walking around the city (the city walls tend to radiate and trap the heat in during the summer). The weather is stunning during this time of year, with warm, but not hot temperatures. You can probably even fit in a beach day!

    5. Edinburgh, Scotland

When it comes to fall foliage, Edinburgh is one of the best places in Europe to experience the beautiful leaves. During autumn, the leaves turn vivid shades of gold and crimson which contrast beautifully against the stunning greenery of the Scottish countryside. Head to the Royal Botanical Garden to experience the best of the magical autumnal hues!

If you’ve been thinking about a fall getaway, there’s no better time to travel. You’ll feel like you have these cities to yourself! No matter how many times you’ve been to Europe, experiencing it in the fall is an absolute must.
