Viking River Cruises has confirmed its plans to debut their first-ever U.S. river cruise ship, Viking Mississippi, and bookings for its August 2022 debut are now open.
The new ship will have 193 outside cabins with a 386-guest capacity. This will be the biggest river ship on the Mississippi and feature some of Viking Ocean Cruise exclusives including the Explorer’s Lounge.
With seven different cabin categories, guests will have options ranging from 268 to 1,024 square feet. All the cabins will feature private balconies outlooking the Mississippi River.
Viking released a video announcement from chairman Torstein Hagen on March 30, “At a time where many of us are at home, looking for inspiration to travel in the future, I am pleased to introduce a new, modern way to explore this great river,” Hagen said.
The new ship will sail both the upper and lower Mississippi between New Orleans and St. Paul, Minnesota. A few more highlights:
- Clean Scandinavian design, reimagined for the Mississippi
- River Café – a casual, top-deck al fresco restaurant
- Infinity Plunge Pool – a glass pool that shows off the surroundings while you swim
- Onboard and onshore enrichment programs including lectures about the region’s culture, kayaking the Louisiana Bayou, and visiting the Rural Life Museum of Louisiana State University
