Conservation Matters Guided sightseeing starts with a morning game drive in Nairobi National Park. Continue to the [LOCAL FAVORITE] Sheldrick Wildlife Trust to learn about and witness elephant conservation in action. As part of Globus family of brands Lighthouse Project, your visit contributes to the Trust’s mission.Visit the Karen Blixen Museum, dedicated to the Danish baroness and author of the 1937 autobiography Out of Africa (later, an Academy Award winning film) illustrating her time living and operating a coffee farm in Kenya. After lunch at the gardens, a visit to the Giraffe Centre is followed by free time this evening. (B,L) LOCAL FAVORITE WILDLIFE WORRIORS Discover the world’s most successful rescue and rehabilitation program for orphaned elephants and rhinos at the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust. Orphans, rescued from threats such as poaching and habitat loss, are brought to the Nairobi Nursery for round-the-clock care from dedicated Keepers, who help them heal from grief and trauma. As the animals recover, they move to reintegration centers like Ithumba, where they learn vital survival skills and gradually reconnect with wild herds. Many eventually return to the wild, and the project has even welcomed 92 babies born to former orphans now thriving in their natural habitat. Visiting the Trust offers a meaningful look at conservation in action and a chance to support Kenya’s remarkable wildlife.

Shaba Special Drive north out of the city to Shaba National Reserve, home to the “Special 5,” a collection of unique animals, including Grevy’s zebra, reticulated giraffe, Somali ostrich, beisa oryx, and gerenuk. Start your safari adventure with an afternoon game drive. Enjoy a 2-night stay at the Sarova Shaba Game Lodge, nestled within the tranquail oasis of the National Reserve. More than 350 recorded species including the vibrant vulturine guinea fowl and gray crowned crane reside in Shaba. Look low for the Kori bustard, the largest flying bird native to Africa.

Arid Awakening Morning and afternoon game drives plus free time at your lodge. Due to the dry climate, the grasses are sparse, making animals easier to spot. The Ewaso Ng’iro River borders the reserve, providing a year-round water supply. These two factors make for a great game viewing experience! Visit a Samburu Village to learn about their customs, attire, dance, and daily life. The Samburu are closely related to the Maasai but have distinct customs, language, and dress.
