Generally the trip was very good. They should eliminate the Bateau boat tour in Paris or at least tell people to bring their own phones and earbuds. Most of the listening devices on the boat didn't work. The boat was also very dirty. Otherwise, the excursions were very good and the tour guides were great.
It would also be simpler and more fair if AMA covered the tips for local guides and drivers.

Great trip! Staff all wonderful; dining excellent. Excursions were very good, especially the “gentle walkers” option. No complaints; looking forward to our next AMA cruise with pre- and post-packages (Madrid…).

The cruise director, Markus, was knowledgeable, pleasant and helpful. The entire crew was excellent as were the excursion guides. We met some very nice fellow passengers and overall had a great experience.
Although the travel with American Airlines worked out in the end, the cancellation and changes and uncertainty about seats beforehand and even seats for the return trip caused us unnecessary anxiety. We understand it was an American Airlines problem, but it distracted from the overall experience.

We throughly enjoyed our recent trip on AmaWaterways round trip Paris / Normandy. The ship was great. The crew was great and the food was fantastic. This part of France is lovely and the Normandy beaches are a must see. Highly recommend.

We had previously cruised Amawaterways on the Danube two years ago and were impressed by the level of service and excellent food so we opted to book again. This time we chose the Rhine and Main waterways. Even though we were on Amawaterways oldest ship, the AmaDante, it was exquisitely maintained and the smaller ship made for a more intimate cruise. We had a group of 18 on this trip and everyone totally enjoyed themselves. The food and service were again exemplary, the cabin was fine and the shower was outstanding. I did appreciate that Ama now offers and exercise coordinator on the ship, although I must confess, even though I had intended on taking part in the daily regimen, I never made it. Several of our group did make each and every session and totally enjoyed it. The local guides that Ama arranged were excellent, knowledgeable, and funny. Ports were interesting, although I would rank the Danube cruise as a more scenic waterway. The Rhine is very commercial and not scenic, the Main is scenic but the number of locks you traverse cuts into your free time in the towns. The WiFi is very spotty throughout the cruise. I would highly recommend Amawaterways for your river cruise experience. We put down a deposit for a future cruise while we we were on this one.

We really liked the small intimate size of the ship. The room was nice and well kept as well as the rest of the ship. The food was good. Service was good. Tours were good.
Sleeping was challenging with all the noises going through the locks at night. Although the tours were fun we had to be bussed ahead on several to catch up with the boat. Weather was not great on our cruise. Loads of interesting places that you visit on these - our favorite part!

Amawaterway is first class all the way with personal touches such as having someone walk us through the airport on the return. The only complaint is the bedding was way too hard and the bar service was mediocre. Many others were complaining about the poorly mixed drinks.

The views on this cruise were mostly very nice although you do go through some industrial areas that are hardly pretty. The food was much better than we expected but people we met who had been on other AMA cruises said they had not had the same good quality on their prior cruise(s). The cabin while small was comfortable with places to put things away and well serviced. The negative aspects were that for two shore excursions, the tour guides and by extension the cruise manager, did not know or take into account times that featured attractions would be closed to the public. If they had taken us there first, there would not have been an issue. We did not get to go inside the Strasbourg and Freiburg cathedrals. They should pay the tour guides enough so that they don't encourage you to tip the guide and bus drivers. Not only does the cost add up but it's a pain to have or get enough coins for the tips. Additionally, the tips for the crew (€100 per person per week) and cruise manager (€25 per person per week should be included in the price. The suggested amounts are €125 per person per week and the cruise manager really did nothing to warrant a tip. There are a number of advantages to a cruise but if you take into account the cost, the insurance that you really need to buy when booking in advance, the tips, and the cost of getting to and from the docking locations, the per day cost is relatively expensive. If you are comfortable making your own arrangements, you can stay in luxury hotels, eat in good restaurants and hire private guides for the same or less cost.
