Viking River Cruises Reviews

This was a great trip on my first Viking cruise. My only recommendation would be to have clearer directions in getting to the ship in Amsterdam on embarkation day. Many thanks to Erin Clark, our Avoya rep who booked our trip.

This was my first Viking river cruise, and it won’t be my last. The food was just average, but everything else was excellent.

This was my first river cruise and Viking made it so memorable! The excursions were interesting and the tour guides were very informative. I missed a couple excursions as I got ill on the cruise. The food was delicious & i was grateful that Linda made sure my meals were dairy free, allowing me to enjoy my meals without fear of allergic reactions. The crew was friendly and helpful, the cruise director was fantastic! A truly wonderful experience!!

Great trip with the perfect mix of cruising the Douro and land excursions. Learned a lot about Portugal and the Barcelona extension may have been the most interesting city we’ve visited.

Great accommodations and very good food and drinks. Great excursions. We had a fantastic time!

My wife and I enjoyed the cruise immensely. We learn quickly that it's not like an ocean cruise and we learned to appreciate The more laid-back approach to river cruising. The only drawback for us was that the top deck which afforded the best observation of the land we were cruising through was nearly always shut down because of the locks and low clearances on the river. The night entertainment for lack of a better phrase was just not very entertaining. But the food and the service and the friendliness of the staff was top shelf. The areas of Switzerland, Germany and France that we visited were beautiful and the ancient places were excellent to tour.

Trip was great. Viking was great. We did have to change ships because of low water levels on the river. It was inconvenient to do so, but Viking handled it well. One little complaint regarding our purchase of the beverage package. Viking decided to give everyone free drinks between 5 and 7 pm one evening for the inconvenience of changing ships. They gave nothing to the persons who purchased the package. In fact, it was difficult for us to get a drink that night beof the volume of free drinks being offered

Trip was absolutely fabulous! Loved all the excursions and food on the boat was exceptional.

The cruise was amazing! I loved every minute of it. The people, the crew, the sights! It was a trip that I am glad I took!!!

We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves on this cruise. The people from Viking were exceptional, the food was outstanding, and the excursions wonderful! This is our second Viking cruise and we look forward to working with Shawn Power again to book our next cruise! Great job!!

Crew and food excellent. Met a lot of nice people. Staff worked really hard keeping room and ship immaculate. Only issue was very long ride home Budapest ti Zürich To LA to Sacramento. Total time with layovers about 21 hours. Should have rearranged it somehow. Thanks to Mari’s who went over and above for us.

This River Cruise was amazing. Well organized, a smooth ride with no feelings we were even moving, a great crew with friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable staff. Great locations. The included tours were very informative and well-organized. The food on board was like a 5-star restaurant.

Great for social history buffs.

Starting with being misled about being able to upgrade our flight, it ended up we could not change to an upgrade, only get on a waiting list which did not pan out. The best part was actually the days before the cruise in Switzerland. Great accommodations and excursions. Once on the ship Meal time very structured and no food available any other time. A few great excursions. Others mediocre. The couple afternoons we remained on the ship there was absolutely nothing to do which surprised us. The only thing we asked of the crew was a wake up call at 5:30am to depart the ship the last morning and it never came. Luckily we were on time despite their irresponsibility.

Disappointed with the river flooding so that we missed Rudesheim and the Middle Rhine with the rains making it hard to see Lorelei. Just bad weather for a couple of days that is not Viking fault. Viking, though, tried its best to continue on as scheduled. Had an excellent guide, Jack, in Kinderdyke. Loved the Black Forest tour.

It was perfect in every way, and everything that I thought it would be. I would do it again in a heartbeat if I could!

We thoroughly enjoyed our first Viking River Boat Cruise. They really know how to make traveling relaxing and easy. We were always very well informed as to where to be, when to be there and how to get there. There were many options for tours, activities, menu choices and beverages. The menu changed daily and was always wonderful!

Viking is an excellent company. We had a situation where we were unable to stay on the same ship for the entire cruise because of water levels. Viking did an excellent job in making the transfer easy and seamless. The thing that makes this rating a four-star instead of five-star is the level of service on the second ship (Vali) was not the same great quality as the first ship (Tir). We recognize that the personnel were different and tied not to compare, but some things you simply recognize. However, our service with Karen Root, our Avoya agent, is always excellent.

Most of this trip was good, however too many bus rides. The river was low and we had to take buses, which was a bit much!

Loved this river cruise. Easy access to all towns. Great stateroom. Delicious food. Great service. This is all that one could wish for . Viking is the best.
