Alaska is amazing, there is a new view in every direction and you just never know when you might see a whale, dolphin, porpoise, sea otters playing, sea lions, harbor seals and many varieties of fish and birds. My favorite part of Alaska was that it was so picturesque, relaxing, natural and the air felt so good to breathe! It is very important to do some shore excursions to really see the sites, meet the locals and enjoy the fresh Alaskan fare of Salmon, Halibut, Crab Legs and more. I highly recommend at least one trip to Alaska on land and finish on the sea.. famously called a Land & Sea cruise! WE love cruises the most ... food is included, entertainment, many on board activities are included.. You choose what you want to do and don't want to do! You can do as much or as little as you want on a cruise.... unpack once and wake up each day in a different port or at sea.... sleep in or rise with the sun... the choice is up to you! In ports, you can purchase excursions through the ship or you can get off and walk around the port yourself... you can book private excursions or book nothing! You don't even have to get off the ship if you don't want to... stay on board and enjoy the quietness of port day in the spa with a great spa deal or enjoy a book by the pool! Visiting ports is a great opportunity though so try to plan ahead for something that appeals to you... most cruise lines do not have excursions included... some luxury cruises do but you have many choices between foodie tours, snorkeling or diving, city or island tours... wildlife tours... whatever you and your family enjoy!
